About us | the idea

The SMA Research Lab - Research and Practice for Strategy, Mergers and Acquisitions was founded in 2012 as a cooperation of the University of Innsbruck (represented by the Department of Strategic Management, Marketing and Tourism) and the MCI Management Center Innsbruck (represented by the Department of Management & Law). Founding members of the SMA Research Lab are Univ.-Prof. Dr. Kurt Matzler and Dr. Florian Bauer.

Even though the current crisis has enormous impact on Strategy and the current M&A market, Mergers & Acquisitions are still an important topic in management. Main aim of the SMA Research Lab is to deserve high class contributions to the scientific community and practice transfer through projects, studies and publications. We are seeking for a deeper understanding of the phenomenons.

SMA researchers attend Make Learn Conference 2013

Florian Bauer, Kurt Matzler and Daniel Degischer examined the role of organizational learning in M&A and presented their findings at the Make Learn Conference in Zadar, Croatia, last June. The ambivalent results indicate that task integration is learnable while integrating culture is not.

Next to the presentation on speed of integration, on the field of tension between intuitive and deliberate decision-making as well as on brand and marketing relatedness effects in M&A, two SMA master graduates (Melanie Schiener und Marcella Rothermel) took the opportunity to bring up their M&A research results for discussion in Istanbul.
